Subject: Texas trip choices
Hi: we will be travelling to TX this X-mas season for about 10 days plus
time to get there.  Due to our time restrictions I have calculated that we
will be able to travel one of the following routes:

Houston, Galveston, Corpus Christi, San Antonio

or

Houston, San Antonio, Austin, D/FW.

Am I correct that I should choose one of these routes for time, and if so,
which one should I choose.
We like nature, museums, scenery and historic or architectural sites.

We are coming from the Northeast (Ontario) so for this trip, I think that
Western Texas will have to wait for another time.

I'd then emphasize time in the "Hill Country," Austin, and San
Antonio; and a more southerly route.   South Padre Island, 'way down
in the tip of Texas, is worth the modest extra distance for wildlife
(including the snowbird, of course!).

Probably a good call for 10 days (especially if you mean net 5 days at
the destinations, rather than 10 days plus travel to and from).  It's
a big place with much to see and long roads in between.   Concentrate
on the abovementioned areas and savor the anticipation of the Big Bend
country and (in the same trip or a third one)  the Guadalupe
Mountains, with an excursion to Carlsbad Caverns and maybe Living
Desert State Park (etc.)  in New Mexico for later.

Thanks for your help, it's net 10 days at the destination, and I have

Thank you for your help.  I think I have made up a route:

South from home through Indianapolis, Little Rock
Arrive Houston, travel to Galveston, Corpus Cristi (Matamoro or Nuevo Laredo
if there is time)
San Antonio, Hill Country, Austin
Home via Dallas/FW, Ozarks, Gary IN.

What do you think? I will have a total of 16 days to take this driving trip.

Should I take the time to visit Mexico for 1/2 day?  Is it worth the
diversion?  (200 miles)

Thanks again.
